Every year, after the last award is handed out at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the real party begins. The 2026 Oscars Governors Ball — the official Academy Awards after-party — is the most glamorous dinner in the world, and this year it did not disappoint. Here's everything you need to know about what the stars ate on the night of March 15, 2026.

Wolfgang Puck at the Oscars: 32 Years and Counting

If there's one name synonymous with the Oscars dinner, it's Wolfgang Puck. The Austrian-born celebrity chef catered the Governors Ball for the 32nd consecutive year in 2026, cementing his status as Hollywood's most iconic culinary figure.

Puck first took on the role in 1995, chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his rare ability to deliver exceptional, restaurant-quality food at massive scale. This year, he and his team — 75 savory chefs and 45 pastry chefs, plus over 300 service staff — prepared more than 70 dishes for approximately 1,500 guests.

His son Byron Puck worked alongside him, as he has in recent years, bringing a new generation's sensibility to one of Hollywood's most storied culinary traditions.

All you need to know about the Governors Ball Menu

One of the key themes of this year's menu was elevated comfort food.

Top dishes on the. Oscar 2026 menu included:

  • Chicken pot pie — a signature Governors Ball staple

  • Wagyu steak frites

  • Cacio e pepe pizza with egg yolk sauce — a crowd favorite at the press preview

  • Viennese fried chicken with crème fraîche and caviar

  • Oscar-shaped smoked salmon crackers — the iconic appetizer that's become a symbol of the evening

  • Mini Wagyu burgers

  • Artichoke "agnolotti" — a traditional stuffed pasta originating from Italy's Piedmont region

Oscars 2026 Desserts: Edible Gold, Gelato and Apple Strudel

The dessert spread at the 2026 Oscars was nothing short of theatrical.

Wolfgang Puck's mother's apple strudel with caramel sauce made a deeply personal appearance on the menu — a nod to the chef's Austrian roots and the kind of nostalgic comfort food that resonates with guests regardless of their star power.

Other desserts included:

  • Tiramisu

  • Freshly baked warm Madeleines

  • Hazelnut, pistachio, and vanilla gelato made to order using a new Italian gelato machine — ensuring a silky, fresh texture even for 1,500 guests

  • ~2,000 miniature chocolate Oscar statuettes dusted with edible 24-karat gold — two full gallons of liquid gold were used at a dedicated spraying station

Oscar 2026 Cocktails: Don Julio for the 9th Year

The drinks program at the Governors Ball was led by Tequila Don Julio, returning for the ninth consecutive year. The cocktail menu was curated by award-winning mixologist Charles Joly alongside Lorenzo Antinori, co-founder of Hong Kong's Bar Leone — one of the most acclaimed bars in the world.

Signature cocktails for the night included "Best in Show" and "The Sequel."

Official wines were provided by Clarendelle & Domaine Clarence Dillon, while Piper-Heidsieck served as the official Champagne — with 7,000 flutes prepared for the evening.

What the Oscars 2026 Governors Ball Menu Tells Us About the Event Catering

The Governors Ball is more than a dinner — it's a masterclass in what the modern events industry demands. On one hand, guests expect innovation and surprise: a live izakaya station, a gelato machine spinning fresh ice cream for 1,500 people, chocolate statuettes dusted with real gold. On the other, they return every year for the familiar and the iconic — the chicken pot pie, the smoked salmon crackers shaped like an Oscar, the apple strudel that's been on the menu since the beginning. This tension between novelty and tradition is exactly what makes great event catering so complex, and so fascinating. Then there's the question of thematic coherence: nothing at the Governors Ball is accidental. The gold-dusted chocolates mirror the statuette. Every detail is connected to the event's identity. And finally, there is the challenge that separates good catering from truly exceptional catering: delivering excellence at scale with a coherent storytelling and strategic choices, just as Wolfgang Puck is doing since 1995.
