A prestigious Guide that shaped the map of Culinary Evolution
Over the past ten years, the World's 50 Best list has mirrored the dynamic shifts in global gastronomy. Can you name the winners of the past 10 editions? If not, We Are Food Editors have prepared a list for you:
2013 & 2015: El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain
2016 & 2018: Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy
2017: Eleven Madison Park, New York, USA
2019: Mirazur, Menton, France
2021: Noma, Copenhagen, Denmark
2022: Geranium, Copenhagen, Denmark
2023: Central, Lima, Peru
2024: Disfrutar, Barcelona, Spain
2025: Maido, Lima, Peru
This progression highlights a journey from the avant-garde techniques of Spanish cuisine, through the purity of Nordic flavors, the depth of Italian traditions, and now, the vibrant diversity of Latin American gastronomy.
Embracing Change: The 'Best of the Best' Rule
Since 2019, a pivotal rule change has reshaped the competition: once a restaurant attains the No. 1 position, it becomes ineligible for future rankings, joining the esteemed 'Best of the Best' list. This initiative aims to celebrate a broader spectrum of culinary excellence and prevent the overshadowing of emerging talents.

Elevating Women in Gastronomy
The 2025 awards also spotlighted the remarkable contributions of women in the culinary world:
Pichaya 'Pam' Soontornyanakij of Potong in Bangkok was honored as The World’s Best Female Chef 2025, recognizing her innovative approach to Thai cuisine.
Mindy Woods, a Bundjalung restaurateur from Australia, received the Champions of Change award for her dedication to preserving Indigenous culture through food.

These accolades underscore the growing recognition of women's pivotal roles in shaping the future of gastronomy.
Looking Ahead to the future of the 50 best restaurants
As the culinary landscape continues to evolve, the 2025 World's 50 Best Restaurants list serves as a testament to the global community's commitment to innovation, diversity, and excellence. With Latin America at the forefront, the world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in this gastronomic journey.
